OccuNomix Recognized for Banning Polyester Treated "FR" High Visibility Garments From Their Work Apparel Line

PT. JEFFERSON STATION, N.Y., March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- OccuNomix, one of only nine manufacturing companies making the commitment to ban polyester materials in their high visibility flame resistant (FR) clothing line, has been recognized for their efforts in the February 2012 edition of ArcWear's prestigious publication, ArcWear / e-Hazard Arc Flash & Safety Newsletter.

"We are very proud to be recognized by ArcWear," said Jennifer McCoy, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development. "As an industry leader, we have the responsibility of not only ensuring that our flame resistant clothing is manufactured to the highest level of safety but to educating our distributors and consumers on the dangers of wearing and selling polyester treated garments. We are committed to this effort," said McCoy.

OccuNomix continues to urge all distributors and consumers to confirm that all high visibility garment components and layers (including interior layers of winter liners) are truly flame resistant by verifying that the flame resistant product meets the new FR standards; specifically, NFPA 2112, ASTM F1506, NFPA 1971 and NFPA 1975 among others (ANSI 107 and CSA Z96 both contain lists of the appropriate standards.)

Consumers are advised that NFPA 701 may appear as a clothing standard but in fact is a drapery standard and not to be used to determine flammability on clothing of any type.

The Flame Resistant High Visibility Collection manufactured by OccuNomix consists of true arc rated products and meets all FR standards.

OccuNomix Incorporates New Flame Resistance Standards Into High Visibility Workgear

PT. JEFFERSON STATION, N.Y., Sept. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Workers requiring high visibility garments to perform their jobs, such as those working near moving vehicles or equipment, should know the American National Standards Institute, established by the International Safety Equipment Association (ANSI/ISEA), recently developed flame resistance (FR) specifications for apparel. Incorporated in the ANSI/ISEA 107-2010 standard, high visibility apparel designated as flame resistant must now comply with flame resistance standards created specifically for apparel.

Offering a higher level of safety, the new standard does not allow materials to be used (such as polyester fabrics) that would melt or drip when exposed to flames or sparks. There are no fire resistant treated polyester fabrics currently available that meet the new FR ANSI standard.

"The OccuNomix Flame Resistant (FR) High Visibility Collection fully complies with the new ANSI/ISEA 107-2010 standard," said Jennifer McCoy, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development. "Our Flame Resistant Products are sewn with FR thread (Nomex® or Kevlar®) and most contain Nomex® FR zippers. Flame Resistant Products contain 25-50 wash FR cotton, modacrylic or brand names you can trust including Banox®, Proban®, Indura® and Nomex®."

OccuNomix recommends that distributors and workers confirm that all high visibility garment components and layers (including interior layers of winter liners) are truly flame resistant. Verify that the product meets the new FR standards outlined below:

Functional Safety Apparel Becomes New Fashion Trend

OccuNomix International redefines safety gear with new designs and fabric technology

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Safety apparel such as high visibility safety vests, pants and coveralls were primarily designed for workers performing high risk tasks within the mining, transportation, firefighter and construction industries, to name a few. But, that's changing. Now, thanks to OccuNomix International's Speed Collection, a new trend is emerging. Workers are not only wearing safety gear to protect them from occupational hazards, but motorcyclists, bicyclists and other outdoor fitness enthusiasts are wearing the apparel as well.

"As the global leader in design and manufacturing of safety apparel, we wanted to break tradition by designing a new line that is not only safe but fashionable. With innovative design and fabric technology, we are now able to offer products that have reflective capabilities with breathable material that provides a closer body fit. The garments are also waterproof and light enough to layer – this line is very comfortable to wear and great for people exercising outdoors," said Jennifer McCoy, vice president of marketing and product development for OccuNomix International.

The new line of high visibility safety apparel is launching at a good time. According to the latest data published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (i) (NHTSA), 47% of all motorcycles involved in fatal crashes collided with another type of motor vehicle in transport.  In two-vehicle crashes, 77% of the motorcycles involved were struck in the front.  52,000 bicyclists were injured in traffic in 2008 (up sharply from 43,000 in 2007).

"Now motorcyclists, bicyclists, walkers, runners and others enjoying the outdoors can wear the latest fashion trend while being more visible and safer.  It doesn't get much better than that," said McCoy.

Cool Gadgets to Help Beat the Heat

New York's Today Show features OccuNomix products to help stay cool
and avoid heat-related illness

NEW YORK, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- People suffer serious heat-related illness when the body is unable to properly cool itself. For older adults, young children, persons with chronic medical conditions and outdoor workers such as construction and Department of Transportation staff, who are particularly susceptible to these illnesses, there is a solution. Recently featured on New York's Today Show, OccuNomix International, LLC offers the MiraCool® Plus Cooling Bandana . This product, along with several others, contains cooling crystals designed to retain cool water and works in concert with the evaporation process. This keeps the products 10-15 degrees cooler than the ambient temperature allowing the cooling sensation to pass to pulse points that are carried throughout the body.

A variety of products, including a neck or collar bandana, headbands, skull caps, hats and cooling vests, have been designed to meet the lifestyle and occupations of all age groups, All products are reusable, work without freezing or ice and stay hydrated for several days after simply soaking them in cool water for approximately 15-30 minutes.

"MiraCool® products are a line of water-activated cooling accessories that can be worn at work, play, indoors or out. Although they look fashionable, they serve a very real function of keeping the wearer cool. And in today's hot climate, staying cool is a priority to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke. With our innovative cooling products, people can feel comfortable, even on the hottest days," said Jennifer McCoy, vice-president of marketing and product development.
